Loans Stink- Apply for a Scholarship
Attention all college and pre-college students: Do not believe for one second that taking out a loan is the only way you can pay for college! If you need financial help, for whatever reason, there are more suitable methods to get it than taking out a student loan. Student loans are burdensome to repay because of the fact that their interest is eternally increasing. Rather than take out a student loan, try a scholarship or grant instead!
The incredible thing about scholarships and grants is that they never have to be repaid. However, you must set aside some time to search and apply for them.
Scholarships: Various businesses and organizations such as the Lions Club, Optimist, Chamber of Commerce and the Girls & Boys Club give scholarships to college students. Scholarships are offered by the military, and certain churches and unions also.
The internet is vast and loaded with information. Hundreds and thousands of scholarships can be found on the web if you just look for them. Simply search for �scholarships� on your favorite search engine. Or you can try Scholarships.com. This site will help you locate scholarships that match you and your interests!
Many of the scholarships found here require you to write a paper. Don�t stress about this and definitely don�t quit! Look for one that matches you well and then sit down and begin typing. Before you send it in, have a family member or friend edit it.
To find other scholarships check with the university you will be enrolling in. Frequently they award scholarships to students with high GPA�s or ACT scores. Colleges usually give out scholarships for athletic abilities also.
If you are still in high school, ask your Financial Aid office if they know of any scholarships you could apply for. Your counselor would also be a great person to ask, as he or she will know know your needs better.
The most essential thing to do is to begin right now. Look for scholarships and ask people you know if they are aware of any. Who knows, you just might run into a gold mine!
Grants, just like scholarships, are free. Grants are awarded depending your special interests, ethnicity, or financial need. You can apply for grants through private groups, educational institutions, and the federal government.
Government grants are given based on on the student�s income. Applications can be found at FAFSA.com or you can pick up an application from your high school or college financial aid office. Depending on the method you used to apply, your Student Aid Report will reach you within three to six weeks.
